Curls Allowed – April Review

I adore subscription boxes. I love the element of surprise – like a goodybag for adults. I’ve tried makeup boxes, lifestyle and general beauty boxes. But, I’ve never tried an exclusive box just for your hair. That is, until now.

Curls Allowed send a monthly box full of products perfect for curly hair. have very fine, wavy hair that is prone to frizz. I’ll be honest, I often just throw it up because it can’t be tamed! So, I was really excited to try some of the products to see if I could add some definition.

April’s box included (in order of sampling);

  • As I Am – Curl Clarity Shampoo Sample
  • Creme of Nature Argan Oil Mousse Full size
  • Boucleme Curl Defining Gel Deluxe Sample
  • Swell Ultimate Volume Shampoo Deluxe Sample
  • Swell Ultimate Volume Conditioner Deluxe Sample

Firstly, I noticed that the As I am Curl Clarity Shampoo had a very sweet, coconut scent. It claims to strip hair of excess product build up and help hair to shine. I can definitely vouch for the shine. I’m used to my hair having a dried look, so it was nice to see it looking shiny and healthy! It’s given my waves a little more definition too. This product averages at about £10.00 for 237ml.

Amazingly, the Creme of Nature Argan Oil Mousse was full sized! It is also the cheapest product in the box at only £3.99 for 207ml. At first, I expected an oil consistency, based purely on the clear liquid in the bottle. However, it does pump as a white foam. It applies nicely to the ends of your hair, without leaving a residue. With fine hair, this is essential for me. I was able to use this product each time I washed my hair, without worrying that it would leave it looking greasy. The Argan oil did help with shine and helped to keep my mane tidy throughout the day, I would definitely say it gave a lasting hold.

Honestly, when I saw that the Boucleme Curl Defining Gel dried firm on your hair, I was worried. I don’t want my curls to look like they’re full of product, with it being so fine, I was concerned it would give me rats tails. But, I was so wrong! After tousling the hair, curls bounced out completely defined! Apply to wet hair, style as normal (I recommend a diffuser with this product) and then scrunch to reveal curls. It’s great because it contains no sulphates, parabens or silicones or artificial colours and scents. It won the Pool Beauty Award in 2017 too.

I love a good shampoo and conditioner combo. These two from Swell are premium hair products for curly hair. At approximately £25.00 per 250ml, I had high hopes. I’d usually be cautious about investing this much money in a product without trying it first, so I’m so greatful to Curls Allowed for including them in their box!

My hair felt cleaner and for longer! It also felt stronger and healthier and this was just after two washes. Long term, these Swell products increase hair growth and prevent fall outs. They’re for all hair types – so didn’t specifically target curls. My hair brushed easily and with minimal detangling. Products are gluten free and vegan friendly.

Get your box from Curls Allowed for only £15.00!

  1. I just love my subscription box too but an exclusive hair products box sounds great. I use very little product on my hair and try not to heat it unless necessary. A good hair mask is a must for me and some anti frizz oil. 🙂 Great review learned about these new brands.

  2. Wow. This is amazing. I’ve never heard of this before. My little sister has a similar issue so you may have given me a birthday idea!
