Makeup Mixologist Review – Blue Hawaiian

Makeup Mixologist are a UK based, cocktail inspired beauty subscription box. One off boxes are £27.50 (free postage) but there are 3 and 6 month boxes available too.

This month’s cocktail was my favourite – Blue Hawaiian. Included in every box is a cocktail recipe card, I like that these are postcard sized and collectible to build your recipe book!

Each box also contains an item from Sephora. I love this idea, as it’s too expensive to import their products in the UK. The eye makeup remover wipes are handy to pop in your bag – I don’t know about you, but at the end of the day, I can’t wait to take my mascara off on the commute home! Ideally, I’d like to see more international brands that are hard to attain here.

My favourite product, was the Laura Mercier quad eyeshadow palette (worth £32). Shades ‘Purple Chrome’, ‘Aluminum Grey’, ‘Blue Steel’ and ‘Iced Nickel’. The metallic colours are so pigmented and they don’t crumble and make a mess. They held their own on my lids for hours and blended really well. Every Laura Mercia product I’ve tried, has been great, a brilliant beauty brand.

In close second place, was the Illamasqua nail polish in a bright blue shade. I know some boxes received a Ciaté polish, which already have loads of, so I’m relieved to get the Illamasqua one. It’s fabulous! It needed only one coat and it didn’t chip for days! The brighter shade is great for the summer months too.

A full sized, Benefit, They’re Real, Blue liner was in every box. The angled head allows close, precise lining of your lids. I have to admit that blue isn’t my usual colour of liner, but the point of these subscription boxes is to receive new products to try and to shake up your routine. It’s a good brand, so I trust it’s quality.

I liked the addition of a rainbow ‘mermaid’ makeup brush. My particular, was an angled eyebrow brush. Of course, there was the monthly addition of a bath bomb too.

My box contained all full sized products (Except perhaps for the Sephora wipes). I’d really like to see more of these premium brands, or brands that are hard to get hold of in the UK. I think that’s what really sets this box apart from others and justifies the monthly cost.
